Dartmouth Medieval Times
What's Happening @DMS
Our yearbook/journalism class is proud to have finished the 2013-2014 Yearbook. This year's theme was Unlocking the Memories. Yearbooks are on sale now and will sell out soon. The cost is $55.
Dartmouth 2014
This year was a blast. We had a lot of fun
things to do, but there were some things that were horrible about this school
year. What I didn’t like about this year was that they took out late start
Tuesday which I loved and hope it comes back to Dartmouth next year. Another
thing which I don’t like about this year is Block Schedule because you don’t
have the same class everyday so it takes a while to get used to. It also makes
you stay in your least favorite classes longer than usually. The only good thing
that comes out of this is we can enjoy our favorite classes longer. Some of the
fun stuff was the GPA reward party, the party from the fundraiser, and many
more. The reward party has its ups and downs. Some of the ups are that we get to
enjoy not being in a class, talking to our friends, playing with our Phones,
tablets, or even other devices like our 3ds’s. Some downs are that we might miss
important homework or classwork. Others would be like some of them are just
really boring like the reward party for the 4th triad. Some were fun
like the 2nd and 3rd reward party was fun and hope they do
that again next year. The fundraiser party was amazing. We got to do the laser
tag, obstacle course, hamster ball, raffles to win some of the prizes that you
could have gotten if your family and neighbors bought more stuff like the
headphones, and the prizes. The fundraiser party had no downs except for maybe
messing some homework or classwork. Some of the other stuff that happened is
that the district is allowing us ones more to play sports like flag football and
basketball next year. Some other events that happened would be that this year we
don’t have CST anymore which is crazy, but also replacing it with a new form of
testing called Smarter Balance testing (SBAC for short)which is heavily depended
on writing and reading everything carefully. It may be hard if you don’t like to
use your head for anything except for video games, fashion, etc. All around it
was an okay year, but next year may be funnier with the edition of sports in the
school.
Dartmouth 2014
Here at Dartmouth this year, we have had a lot of
good times. Some of them were better than the others, but they will stay with us
for a long time. A lot of people would want to remember as much as
possible.
I remember like it was yesterday: the first day
of school. Almost every one of the sixth graders was a nervous wreck, including
me. Some were crying and clinging on to their parents, others wouldn’t say a
word. We all went to our advisory class to find out that our schedules had been
messed up. We had to go to the office and get our new ones (mine had been messed
up twice). At lunch, both lunches were combined and we had an hour instead of 30
minutes. The staff grilled hot dogs and played music, some even started to dance
on the tables. After lunch we went to the rest of our classes and went
home.
Our dress-up days were pretty cool too! We had
Neon Day, Blast to the Past, PJ day, and so many more. Everyone had a good time
participating in those with their friends, matching, even when it wasn’t twins’
day.
After the first trimester, we had a GPA party. If
we had a 2.5 or higher, we could miss a few classes and watch a movie. A lot of
people got to go which is very good.
About the second trimester we had a big fund
raiser. If we sold a certain amount of magazines, we got little penguin key
chains and a big reward party on the grass. There were carnival games, big blow
up slides, hula hoop contests, laser tag, even a human hamster ball! Everyone
had a blast! If we played the carnival games, we’d get tickets. If we got
tickets, they would go into a raffle to win awesome prizes. A few people got
iPod shuffles and bubble blasters to take home with
them.
Block schedule had started up for MAP testing on
the computers. Instead of going to all classes, we went to three each day. Each
class was about 90 minutes long, advisory was 40, and the passing period was 10
minutes. We had to go to 1st
period, then 2nd, lunch
(first lunch or second lunch advisory), advisory (or switched),
3rd period, and finally
we could go home. The next day it would be 4th, 5th and 6th. We switched every other day.
At the end of the first semester, we had a huge
3.0 party. Anyone with a 3.0 or higher would get to go to the movie theater in
Temecula and see Cloudy with a Chance of
Meatballs 2. It was during block schedule, so when we got back, it was
lunch. Instead of going to the rest of our classes we got to go to the MPR and
watch a movie or play board games. If we didn’t want to do that, we got to go to
the gym and play games.
Block schedule starts to end and Dartmouth’s
Medieval Times came up! Dartmouth’s Medieval Times was one of my favorites.
There were games, a petting zoo, since competition, Kona Ice, food, auctions,
hair spray booth, kissing booth (it wasn’t a real kissing booth. They gave out
Hershey’s kisses). I thought it was one of the best times ever! Mrs. Dobbins
held an AVID booth where you can buy food, check in, and get extra credit. Mr.
Kennedy had a booth too. You could throw cold, wet sponges at anyone there. The
whole event was 4 hours long! A few friends and I stayed there the whole time.
For the 4th triad, if we got a 3.0 or higher, we got
to go into the MPR and watch the movie Frozen. When we
got I there, we signed in and they gave us a ticket. They told us the ticket was
to get ice cream. They also told us that we could play on our electronics.
That’s when everyone got excited. Once the movie was over, so was school and we
got to go home.
Block schedule started up again around the fifth
triad. Everyone was trying to get their grades up for the GPA trips. This time,
it varied. If we had a 3.0-3.49 we got to go bowling and then George’s Pizza for
dinner. If we had a 3.5-3.99 we would get to go to Raging Water Park for the
whole day and not come back until 7pm. The best trip is for people with a 4.0.
They get to go to Knott’s Berry Farm and then to Medieval Times for dinner and a
show. If you got a 2.99 or lower, you had to stay at the school like a regular
day.
I love Dartmouth and I hope to come here next
year.
